Features of the FOKUS Generic Bootstrapping Architecture

The GBA consists of two main functional components, a Bootstrapping Server Function (BSF) and a Network Application Function (NAF). The FOKUS BSF has a Diameter interface towards the HSS to fetch authentication vectors. Towards the client, it enables a bootstrapping process over HTTP to authenticate it based on the long term secret and towards the NAF it offers Diameter or Web Service interfaces to distribute short term keys inside the operator network. The FOKUS NAF allows the application of these keys for authenticating or securing client communication and asserts IMS user identities towards IMS or Internet Application Servers.

Currently, Identity Federation Frameworks like OpenID or Liberty Alliance are envisaged to be linked to the FOKUS GBA to enable an even broader use of this secure authentication framework. We are open to considerations and discussions in this field and can provide know-how and proof of concept implementations for interested parties. Contact us today!
