OpenEPC will also soon provide the FI-WARE PPP core communication enabler and we are continuously looking forward to contributing OpenEPC as a flexible and fast-prototyping platform in upcoming German and European research projects.
While Release 2 introduced the new E-UTRAN protocol, reference points and prototypes, current developments towards Release 3, planned for the end of 2011, are already advanced in the directions of pushing developments for SGSN prototyping towards comprehensive 3GPP GERAN, UTRAN and E-UTRAN support. Converged EPC-IMS charging as well as advanced and flexible PCC packet Gating, QoS and Counters are being overhauled such that a more powerful coverage would be provided soon to existing and future partners. Release 3 will also include an enhanced Mobility Manager, which has been redesigned to include as core functionalities location services and wireless discovery features, together with low-level 3GPP modem integrations towards flexible network (re-)selections and even IMS client integrations.
