The progressing convergence of fixed and mobile networks, the seamless integration of multiple wireless access network technologies (WLAN, Femtocells, 2G/EDGE, 3G/HSPA, etc), the global introduction of 4G / Longterm Evolution (LTE) network technologies, as well as the fundamental changes in service architectures based on the cloud paradigm leads to new powerful communication control platforms, unifying the seamless, secure, Quality of Service based service provision across multiple access networks.
The FUSECO Playground offers the unique open infrastructure testbed to prototype and validate in an integrated multi access network environment (DSL/WLAN/2G/3G/LTE/LTE-A) new concepts, components, protocols and helps to coin your vision of a future internet in areas like SmartCities, Automotive, eHealth, eGovernment, Smart Metering and more.
The FUSECO Playground is an 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (EPC) centric, independent and open laboratory for mobile broadband communication research and development. It addresses large and small scale equipment vendors, network operators, application developers and research groups to testwise deploy and extend their components and applications before market introduction in order to manifest their advance in the international telecom market.

FOKUS Broker Supports GSMA OneAPI
The FOKUS Broker service environment is now supporting GSMA OneAPI interfaces. This API is designed for the exposition of network capabilities via HTTP in a RESTful approach. The supported capabilities are SMS, VoiceCall, Location and Payment. The APIs are available in the OpenSOA Telco Playground.
Fraunhofer FOKUS and the Cinterion GmbH agreed on a partnership in the field of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. “For the development of our OpenMTC platform, it is crucial to find strong industry partners and experts that help us to gain insight into industry needs and position our research results” says Dr. Sebastian Wahle who is responsible for the M2M business development at Fraunhofer FOKUS.
FOKUS Broker Supports OMA Next Generation Service Interfaces
We have implemented in the OpenSOATelco Playground OMA NGSI as RESTful APIs within the FOKUS Broker. The APIs are mapped to the OpenIMSCore and our OMA enablers.
Vodafone Provides LTE Connectivity for the FUSECO Playground
The FOKUS FUSECO Playground is now connected via the Vodafone live LTE network in Berlin.
OpenEPC is part of the Future Internet Public Private Partnership flag platform project FI-WARE, uniting major European industrial actors. The goal of the FI-WARE project is to advance the global competitiveness of the EU economy by introducing an innovative infrastructure for cost-effective creation and delivery of services, providing high QoS and security guarantees. FI-WARE is designed to meet the demands of key market stakeholders across many different sectors, e.g., healthcare, telecommunications, and environmental services. The key deliverables of FI-WARE will be an open architecture and a reference implementation of a novel service infrastructure, building upon generic and reusable building blocks developed in earlier research projects.
Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T-Labs) and OpenEPC
Telekom Innovation Laboratories establishes an OpenEPC testbed at their premises for enabling the further research in the area of various access technologies, access and core network energy efficiency as well as in other innovation areas related to the Operator Infrastructures for the Future Internet.
