    Civil security without surveillance

More security in public spaces without forfeiting privacy or personal rights. The Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) exhibts at the CeBIT 2014 (Hall 9, Stall E40), that this need not be contradictory. The crisis management system SAFEST with the help of infrared cameras, recognizes critical situations in crowds and guides people in danger away from the dangerous zone. In doing so neither movement profiles nor personal data is recorded.

embedded world 2014: Test environment for networked vehicles

Modern vehicles are increasingly being equipped with assistance systems: For example a camera recognizes road signs and points out speed limits or no-passing zones to the driver. In the future vehicles will exchange data between each other or with the traffic infrastructure, in order to inform the driver of dangerous situations like an approaching traffic jam. The basis for vehicle-to-X communication is failsafe and reliable software systems. At the embedded world 2014 in Nuremberg (Hall 5, Booth 250) between the 25th and 27th of February, Fraunhofer FOKUS will present a test environment for testing of such complex and highly cross-linked systems.

Car-to-X communication: Experimental tools from Fraunhofer FOKUS demonstrate their practical application in the largest field test to date

After several years of research & development and the largest field test for co-operative driving to date, the final presentation for the project simTD (Safe Intelligent Mobility – Test Field Germany) took place today at the exhibition center in Frankfurt am Main. A key result of the project: Car-to-X communication enables information to be transferred from vehicles to the traffic control center and vice versa, thus leading to improved knowledge of traffic conditions and faster detection of traffic-related events. Fraunhofer FOKUS assisted the project consortium with the storage and further processing of the high volume of measurement data, as well as with the specification, implementation and supervision of the test scenarios and with quality assurance for the installed hardware and software components.
