Awards for FOKUS Testbed Federation “Panlab”
The research on the development and testing of new communication infrastructures and new services and network components lies at the heart of the project “Panlab” (PII), a European testbed federation. This project, which is supported by the EU and directed by Fraunhofer FOKUS, was selected as the winner by The Future Internet Assembly (FIA) from a pool of 32 candidates. Panlab was presented with the Future Internet Award in December 2010. The basis for Panlab is the “Teagle-Tool”, developed by FOKUS which helps to centralise the linking and management test bed components.
OpenRide: Fraunhofer FOKUS is one of the “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas"
Award for the development of the mobile ridesharing service OpenRide. Fraunhofer FOKUS is one of the “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas". OpenRide was chosen out of 2,200 applications in the nationwide contest “Germany - Land of Ideas". The contest is intended to show the innovative potential of Germany inside the country and abroad. The jury justifies its decision because the mobile ridesharing service is in step with actual practice and shows how intelligent mobility may look like in the future. OpenRide provides users with the ability to get and post ridesharing offers with their mobile phones.
International IBM Research Prize for Fraunhofer FOKUS
Fraunhofer FOKUS is gaining laurels for its research activities regarding the electronic safe for data and documents. On 15th December in Berlin Erwin Jung, director of IBM Science Relations, has awarded Prof. Dr. Radu Popescu-Zeletin with the International Shared University Research (SUR) Grant, which included prize money of 50,000 US dollars. IBM appreciates the efforts of Fraunhofer FOKUS on the project „elektronic safe“. The partners are targeting the conception and realization of a virtual safe for personal data and digital documents. The SUR points out the good collaboration between IBM and Fraunhofer FOKUS since the project started in April 2009.
Innovation Competition “Network of Automotive Excellence 2007”
The ‘Automotive Software Engineering Group’ won an award at the ‘Würzburger Automobil Gipfel 2007’ for its use of Unified Modeling Language (UML), a software development standard, in the development of automotive software - September 2007
“RISER” receives award in the Innovative IT Solutions Made in Berlin and Brandenburg Best Practice Competition 2006
The RISER project – Registry Information Service on European Residents – takes the prize in the eGovernment category.
The RISER project is building an internet-based platform giving companies and citizens throughout the world access to local and national population registers in Europe. The European Commission has already rated the RISER project with “excellent” top marks as one of the most ambitious eGovernment projects ever.

The award ceremony took place at the IT-Profits trade fair in Berlin.
The Best Practice Competition is an industry initiative sponsored by “We make IT.berlinbrandenburg” and the Association for the Promotion of the SME sector Software Industry in Berlin and Brandenburg (SIBB).
ITEA Achievment Award 2005
The ITEA project TT-Medal on Tests and Testing Methodologies with Advanced Languages with partners from Finnland, The Netherlands and Germany has been awarded the ITEA Achievement Award 2005. The German part is lead by FOKUS - 17.10.2005
Most Valuable Chair at the OMG Technical Meeting
Andreas Hoffmann has been awarded recognition as Most Valuable Chair at the OMG Technical Meeting in Burlingame, California. He is the chair of the Deployment and Configuration RTF - 4.2.2005
Prof. Popescu-Zeletin awarded the highest order of the Republic of Romania
February 2005 – Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Radu Popescu-Zeletin, director of the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, has been awarded the highest order of the Republic of Romania – the Cenfera Ordinul National Pentru Merit in gradual de Comandor – by Ion Iliescu, president of the Republic of Romania.
