Research topic demographic change: competence platform for Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) goes online

A new web based competence platform for providers and developers of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions has been launched by Fraunhofer FOKUS and its project-partners from optimAAL. Their aim is to establish the platform to be first-to-click when it comes to information and expertise concerning Ambient Assisted Living AAL). The project will be introduced during the AAL congress 2012, taking place January 24th–25th in Berlin.

The Fraunhofer Institute`s integration - new formation of ICT- Research and Development in Berlin

Berlin-based Fraunhofer Institutes are about to merge to a new ICT Research Institute and collaborate on solutions for networked urban infrastructures in areas like Mobility, eHealth, Public Safety and Security, eGovernment and energy research. In January 2012 the first step towards the Institute’s formal merger was completed by integrating the Berlin part of ISST into Fraunhofer FOKUS.

Call a car and be picked up: Model cars show future transport scenario at the German IT Summit

How to get from one point to another in the “City of Tomorrow” shows a new Fraunhofer FOKUS scenario, developed in cooperation with the Daimler AG, the European Center for Information and Communication Technologies (EICT) and “Münchner Kreis”. A first showcase with model cars was presented at this year’s Federal Government IT Summit in Munich. The demonstration shows how in the future cars can be asked to come to a certain pick-up-point and take passengers to a pre-programmed destination autonomously.

Fraunhofer FOKUS hosts EuroITV 2012 - “Bridging People, Places and Platforms”

Fraunhofer FOKUS is proud to host the 10th anniversary edition of EuroITV. The international Interactive TV Conference will take place in Berlin from 4th-6th July 2012. The three-day event under the slogan “Bridging People, Places & Platforms” includes tutorials, workshop and a conference where experts and industry representatives will gather to discuss current development and future trends in IPTV standards, mobile TV, digital content production and entertainment as well as new advertisement concepts and business models for television.

Development partnership for software tools with Match Technologies

Fraunhofer FOKUS and Match Technologies conclude a contract to tighten their partnership. Match Technologies, a FOKUS -Spin-Off, has become a well-established software developing, IT-providing and IT-engineering company. The partnership was sealed with the signing of an outline agreement for an unlimited validation period. The agreement was signed by the Managing Director of Match Technologies Ralph Sasse and FOKUS Director Prof. Radu Popescu-Zeletin. The cooperation is targeting primarily on joint-projects in the areas of model-based development and quality assurance.

2nd FOKUS Media Web Symposium 2011: International success!

On November 10–11 with tremendous success Fraunhofer FOKUS attracted international future media innovators for the second time to the FOKUS Media Web Symposium. The event took place at Fraunhofer-Forum in the heart of Berlin. Numerous experts and researchers from 15 countries discussed future trends in the field of HybridTV, web applications, and social media.

Berthold Butscher has been appointed to the chair of honour of the special interest group “Communications and Distributed Systems” of the German “Gesellschaft fuer Informatik” (Computer Science Society).

Berthold Butscher, deputy director at Fraunhofer FOKUS, has been appointed to the chair of honour of the special interest group “Communications and Distributed Systems” of the German “Gesellschaft für Informatik” (Computer Science Society). During his longtime leadership activity in this board that counts about 1,000 members, he enhanced the work of this group decisively.
