Smart Cities - Preliminary Study “City Data Cloud Berlin” is Released
Berlin has the potential to play a leading role in “Open Data” concludes the “City Data Cloud Berlin,” a study conducted by Fraunhofer FOKUS and the Berlin Senate Administration for Economics, Technology and Women's Issues, Berlin. The “Berlin City Cloud” would make it possible for businesses, organizations and private citizens to gain secure access to city government data (e.g. administration, traffic and environment). “This is our opportunity to shape the design of the city together,” explains the study’s co-author Ina Schieferdecker. City Data Cloud would be accessed using custom public, private and commercially developed Apps. The study proposes the creation of a citywide Data Cloud infrastructure and also shows that access to public data can make an essential contribution to the economic and social development of a city.
