Electro-Mobility Summit in Berlin: FOKUS shows how to manage traffic ecologically

The German government and German Industry intend to see a million electric vehicles on the Republic’s roads in 2020, declared Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Electro-Mobility Summit in Berlin on May 3. At the Brandenburger Tor, experts from Fraunhofer FOKUS have demonsted how to connect electric with hybrid vehicles and the traffic infrastructure. Based on this technology the experts are developing new mobility services, for example the “Flexible Low Emission Zone”:  currently pollution-free zones are predefined – in future, these zones will be flexibly adjusted according to effective carbon emissions. Car-2-infrastructure communication systems are going to provide the essential information to drivers and direct them along environmentally compatible routes.
