Abstract

Moving Towards 5G : The Role of Smart Interconnect Carriers

Roaming and interworking are the keys to the success of any new mobile technology. And it will not be different in 5G. As 5G is closer to internet based technologies especially in the core network, mobile operators often wonder if Interconnect carriers have a role to play to facilitate communication services in the international landscape. Or would the carriers evolve to be just a IPX pipe provider, whilst the operators maintain the spaghetti signalling and data channel mesh amongst themselves? BICS brings some insights to how they have evolved to provide ‘5G enabled’ advanced services on top of IPX, crafted to address the pain points of the 5G operators and help them realise roaming and interworking seamlessly.
